Gujarat DISCOM Tariffs & Solar ROI Calculation

The financial return on your solar investment is directly tied to how much you currently pay for electricity. In Gujarat, the DISCOMs (MGVCL, DGVCL, PGVCL, Torrent Power) use a slab-based tariff structure.

Average Residential Slab Tariffs (2026)

Monthly Consumption Slabs Base Energy Charge Effective Rate (incl. FPPPA & Duty)
First 50 Units ₹3.05 ~ ₹6.20 / Unit
51 to 100 Units ₹3.50 ~ ₹6.75 / Unit
101 to 250 Units ₹4.15 ~ ₹7.50 / Unit
Above 250 Units ₹5.20 ~ ₹8.80 / Unit

*Note: Effective rates include Fuel and Power Purchase Price Adjustment (FPPPA) charges and electricity duty, which fluctuate slightly. Torrent Power rates in Ahmedabad/Surat may vary slightly from state DISCOMs.

Calculating Your Payback Period

If your household consumes 400 units a month, your blended effective rate is approximately ₹8.00 per unit, resulting in a monthly bill of around ₹3,200.

A standard 3 kW solar system generates about 360 to 400 units per month in Gujarat (thanks to excellent solar insolation).
- Net Upfront Cost: ~₹65,000 (after ₹78,000 PM Surya Ghar subsidy).
- Annual Savings: ₹3,200 x 12 = ₹38,400.
- Payback Period: ₹65,000 / ₹38,400 = 1.7 Years!

Because the initial cost is so heavily subsidized and installation costs in Gujarat are competitive, rooftop solar is essentially a zero-risk investment that pays for itself in under two years for high-consumption households.
