Troubleshooting Solar Delays in Karnataka
If your application stalls in Karnataka, it is usually due to one of these common bottlenecks. Here is how to navigate them:
1. Transformer Capacity Full (Feasibility Rejection)
Problem: Your feasibility request is rejected because the local distribution transformer has hit its 80% solar capacity limit.
Solution: You can either wait for BESCOM to upgrade the local transformer, or negotiate with your neighbors to see if any abandoned solar applications can be cancelled to free up transformer quota.
2. Sanctioned Load Limits
Problem: You want a 5kW system but your home's sanctioned load is 3kW.
Solution: Apply for a load enhancement via the BESCOM portal. Pay the security deposit. Once the new load reflects in your system, re-apply for solar.
3. Net Meter Shortages
Problem: The vendor has completed the installation, but the DISCOM says bi-directional meters are out of stock, delaying commissioning for weeks.
Solution: Do not wait. Purchase an approved meter (e.g., L&T, Secure) from an authorized dealer, get it tested at a KPTCL/BESCOM empanelled lab, and submit it directly to your AEE.
4. The Net Billing Trap (>10kW)
Problem: You installed a 12kW system and notice your bills are still high because you aren't getting a 1:1 unit offset.
Solution: This is a policy issue. Systems over 10kW fall under Net Billing in Karnataka, meaning exported units are bought at a low fixed rate, while imported units are billed at high slab rates. Always try to size your residential system at 10kW or below to stay within the Net Metering framework.
