Karnataka DISCOM Portal Walkthrough (BESCOM / HESCOM)

Navigating the approval process in Karnataka requires coordination between the National Portal and the local DISCOM field offices (especially BESCOM sub-divisions).

Step 1: The Feasibility Application

All applications start on the National PM Surya Ghar Portal.

  1. Select Karnataka and your DISCOM (BESCOM, HESCOM, etc.).
  2. Enter your Account ID / Consumer Number and upload your latest electricity bill.
  3. Specify the desired system capacity (remembering the 10kW Net Metering threshold).
  4. The local Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) reviews the local transformer load. If capacity exists, technical feasibility is approved (usually within 7-10 days).

Step 2: Installation and CEIG Approval

Once feasibility is approved:

  • Your empanelled vendor installs the system.
  • Important for Karnataka: If your system capacity is above 10kW, the vendor must obtain safety clearance from the Chief Electrical Inspectorate to Government (CEIG) before the DISCOM will proceed.
  • The vendor uploads the Work Completion Report (WCR) and synchronization request.

Step 3: Joint Inspection & Metering

A DISCOM official visits your premises to verify the earthing, DCDB/ACDB, and structure safety.

  • You must procure an approved bi-directional meter (vendors usually handle this) and have it tested at an authorized lab.
  • The official installs the meter, signs the Joint Inspection Report (JIR), and issues the Commissioning Certificate online, which triggers your subsidy claim.
